On Sunday, June 18, we celebrated the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi).
ask any Catholic, they would agree that they love the Eucharist. It is the source and summit of our
Christian lives.
True the Eucharist is a mystery. We do not grasp its full meaning. We have only glimpses of its meaning. We grasp instinctively. We know that the Eucharist can and does change our lives. As the bread and wine are changed into the body and blood of Christ, we who receive the Eucharist are transformed into the body and blood of Jesus. Collectively we call this the Church, the body of Christ (St. Paul).
In faith we believe that Jesus is truly present and that if we eat His body and drink his blood, we do have eternal life. Why? Because He said it. (John 6:51-58).
Dear Sister thank you for this good post. Paradox of faith! Holy Eucharist. I have a book of miracles that occurred which are attributed to the power of the Blessed Host. We are taught about this holy sacrament from the beginning of our Christian life, but the idea of it is truly strange. Drinking blood? Eating his flesh? Let us remember how deep and spiritually satisfying this rite is. All the ancient sacrifices are gathered up and concluded in this powerful event, summed up and proclaimed in the suffering and love of the perfect one, who also gathers all the sacrifices of the saints and even the loved ones of our families. The sacrifice that love gives. The suffering of John Paul 2 and Mother Teresa. They lived and died that we might have life. The Eucharist -- holy and all-healing -- this is the Christian faith. God bless OSB amen
